What do antibiotics work against?

Bet your knowledge and answer Start the quiz

Correct answer

Bacteria

Explanation

Regular antibiotics only work on bacteria and not on viruses. Therefore, for example, colds and influenza cannot be treated with antibiotics. Our body defends itself against infections in many ways. We produce antibodies and can get a fever, which viruses do not tolerate well. Our own defense mechanisms can also handle minor infections in wounds and boils, but antibiotics have undoubtedly saved many lives in major bacterial infections.
